Anna Stavelova (born in 1984 in Prague) is a flute soloist, chamber and orchestral musician coming from the Czech Republic and formed in the french flute school. Her repertoire is going from the baroc period to nowadays and her main issue is to offer the most possible authentic interpretation, as well as to bring a new point of view.

 

She studied the flute first in the Czech Republic at the Prague and Pilsen Conservatories with Jan Ostry and later at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse in Lyon, France. There, in the class of Philippe Bernold, Julien Beaudiment and Gilles Cottin, she obtained her master's degree with the best mention. During international master classes she recieved precious advises also from Janos Balint, Hansgeorg Schmeiser, Karl-Heinz Schutz, Catherine Cantin, Vincent Lucas and Michel Debost. Anna is a laureate of many national and international competitions as Concerto Competition during the Sewannee Summer Music Festival (USA), Concertino Praga, Competition of Czech Conservatories (CR), Anglo-Czecho-Slovak Trust (GB) and was a semifinalist of the prestigious competition «Concours Maxence Larrieux» in France.

Quickly, she started to be invited to different festivals of music as soloist or chamber musician.She already appeared at festivals as Bohemia Magica, Saou chante Mozart, Festival Franche Comté, Festival de Saintes (FR), Smetanova Litomysl, Mozartiana Yuventus (CR), Festival of Contemporary Music in Poznan (PL), Afyonkarahisar Classical Music Festival (TR) to name a few.

 

 

Anna's concert activity includest a lot of creation projects. The first impulsion to those projects were the concerts with Atelier of 20th and 21st centuries directed by F. Pierre and the workshops with composers such as Georges Aperghis, Helmut Lachenmann or Thon That Thiet. In 2011 Anna appeared as a soloist in the Czech creation of the concerto «Ailes du songe» from Kaija Saariaho and from this time on, she collaborates regularly with ensembles as Berg Orchestra and Prague Modern, both focusing on contemporary music. Later, she started to collaborate with the Czech composer Ivana Loudova and was an iniciator of a music-dance project «The past in the present», featuring her music and the music of her former teacher Miloslav Kabelac. The contemporary music and the creation has an important place also in the activity of the chamber music group «Ensemble Confluence» of which Anna is a co-founder. The ensemble, playing in many different constitutions, performs often the music of I.Loudova or T.Takemitsu and is trying to develop an important dialogue with the composers of young generation besides playing the music of the past centuries.

 

Besides the creation and chamber music activity, Anna appears regularly as a soloist with orchestra or in recital with piano. She has played with orchestras as Solisti di Praga, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra or the orchestra of Pilsen Conservatory.Her recital repertoir goes from 18th to 21st century and she collaborates with pianists as L. Zhecheva, J. Chaudhuri, S. Labandibar and others. In her concerts, she introduces often the music of Czech composers and aspecially the works of B. Martinu. She has already realised numerous projects with his music, in the concert version or in the scenic projects with dance.

 

To complete her musicial activity, Anna is also an active orchestral musician. Since 2009 she is a guest solo flute of the Lyon National Opera Orchestra and appears often at the same position in other orchestras as Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitol de Toulouse, Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, Sinfonia Varsovia, and others. Between 2011-2014 she served as solo flute in the Talich Chamber Philharmony, with whom she performed in the Czech Republic and abroad. She has collaborated with conductors as D. Rustioni, M. Brabbins, B. Kontarsky, G. Korsten, M. Swierczewski, T. Brauner, T. Hanus or S. Vavrinek.

In 2010 she was selected as solo flute in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and could perform in the best european concert halls and work with such conductors as A. Pappano and H. Blomstedt.

 

Since 2015, Anna is teaching flute at the Faculty of Arts in the University of Ostrava (CR).
